Bitumen 85/25

Description of  Bitumen 85/25

In a bitumen production reactor, air is introduced into a mixture of Vacuum Bottom (VB) and Vacuum Silas (VS) feedstocks under specific pressure and at temperatures between 200–300°C. During this process, hydrogen atoms in the bitumen molecules react with oxygen from the air, causing heavier hydrocarbons to polymerize. As a result, the bitumen develops a lower penetration rate and a higher softening point compared to the original pure bitumen. Through this method,  Bitumen 85/25 achieves a softening point of 85 and a permeability of 25.

Bitumen 85/25—categorized among polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons—is a semi-solid, pure petroleum bitumen that sees frequent use in the construction industry. Manufacturers produce it by blowing very hot air through petroleum bitumen 60/70. In the industrial sector, this product displays solid-like characteristics at ambient temperatures and delivers superior adhesive and waterproofing qualities when applied hot and allowed to cool (compared to non-oxidized bitumen).

Gold Bitumen Company guarantees the quality of its  Bitumen 85/25 by coordinating with international inspectors who verify the product’s quality and quantity during vessel loading. The company’s QC team also reviews batch test reports before shipping. Gold Bitumen ensures compliance with ASTM standards.

Uses of  Bitumen 85/25

Bitumen 85/25 finds applications in numerous sectors, including chemical processing, fuels, paints, lacquers, varnishes, paper-pulp-board, and textile processing. It is also widely used in road construction, pavement repair, crack sealing, civil works, roofing, and other construction industries. Beyond these uses, it serves as a sealant and insulating material for buildings, an adhesive, a construction additive, a dust-binding agent, and an impregnating agent for rubber and plastic products.

This bitumen grade supports paving projects and is integral to asphalt-based paints that protect metals from corrosion. It works well for lining public-works structures, acts as an adhesive in electrical laminates, and provides a solid base for synthetic turf. Thanks to its waterproof and corrosion-resistant properties, it also proves effective for pipe coatings, Portland cement pavement, hydraulic applications, paint manufacturing, caulking, mastics, and damp-proofing. In membrane sheets, it offers both insulation and isolation benefits. The automotive industry, particularly for undercoating vehicles, values oxidized bitumen 85/25 for its ability to provide waterproofing, dustproofing, and noise reduction.

Bitumen 85/25 Application

Bitumen 85/25 lends itself to a wide range of applications, from construction and paving to road maintenance. It also functions as one component of canal lining and proves suitable for building embankments and dams in hydro projects. In roofing, it can be used for roof coatings, as a thin membrane beneath shingles, or as a raw material for carriage roofing compounds and liquid roof coatings.

Many industries also use acid- and alkali-proof bitumen mastic derived from Oxidized Grade 85/25 as a flooring material. In the oil and gas sector, this product protects pipelines from corrosion and rust when applied as a coating. Its versatility extends to lithium-ion batteries, wires, and electrical junction boxes, and it effectively seals laminated boards due to its strong adhesive qualities.

Storage/Handling of Grade 85/25

Bitumen 85/25 retains its validity for up to 10 years, even with multiple heating and cooling cycles. For more details, please refer to the MSDS.

Packing of Bitumen 85/25

Gold Bitumen manufactures Oxidized Grade 85/25 in a variety of packaging options—Kraft bags, meltable plastic bags, drums, or bulk—to meet different customer requirements. This grade originates from penetration-grade bitumen blown with hot air in a controlled process until the desired specifications are reached. The two numbers (85/25) denote softening point and penetration range: for instance, a softening point of 85°C and a penetration of 25 desi-millimeters. Production complies fully with ASTM standards, as shown below.

Guaranty/Warranty of Bitumen

Gold Bitumen ensures bitumen quality by arranging for international inspectors to confirm both quality and quantity during each shipment’s loading. The company’s QC team monitors production via batch test reports before shipping. Gold Bitumen guarantees full compliance with ASTM/EN 13304:2009.
