General Description of Cationic Bitumen Emulsion K3
Bitumen K3, a cationic bitumen emulsion (medium setting), contains 56% bitumen. It is black in color and manufactured strictly as per KS 02-769: 1990 standard.
Bitumen K3 is cold-applied and liquid-based, used in the construction and repair of pavements, driveways, roads, and highways.
Uses of Cationic Bitumen K3
Applications include:
- Bituminous-aggregate mixtures for pavement bases and surfaces:
- Plant mix (cold): with both dense-graded aggregate and sand
- Mixed-in-place: Dense-graded aggregate, Sand, Sandy Soil
- Slurry Seal
- Fog Seal
- Prime coat for penetrable surfaces
- Tack coat
- Dust Binder
- Mulch Treatment
- Crack Filler
*May be diluted with water by the manufacturer or contractor per state regulation. Cationic emulsions can be applied at ambient temperatures with aggregates that need not be completely dry, making them safer and more versatile.
Application Conditions of Cationic Emulsion Bitumen K3
Apply Bitumen Emulsion K3 in dry, frost-free conditions, maintaining temperatures between 5°C and 35°C throughout the drying period.
Before application, roll drums well to mix contents. Apply with a broom, squeegee, or spray for uniform distribution. Use equipment that meets BS3136 standards. Ensure even spraying to prevent ponding, which may cause localized “fatting up.”
Preparation
Surfaces must be dry and free from dust, oil, grease, and debris. In hot weather, dampen the surface to slow water loss from the emulsion. Ensure no standing water before and during application.
Packing of Cationic Emulsion Grade K3
- Bulk in IBC Tank or Flexi Tank
- Reconditioned steel drums (200 liters)
- New steel drums (200 liters)
