Introduction Bitumen MC-70

Cutback Bitumen MC-70 is a medium-curing (MC) cut-back asphalt, consisting of penetration grade asphalt cement and a medium volatility diluent. Interestingly, the diluent temporarily reduces the viscosity of the asphalt cement, thus allowing easier handling and application. After application, the diluent evaporates, leaving asphalt cement to perform its function. Notably, Cutback MC-70 is commonly used in roofing as a waterproofing membrane and as an adhesive to stick chippings onto flat, horizontal roofs to minimize the effects of weathering from the sun.

Composition

Cutback Bitumen MC-70 is formed by dissolving bitumen in solvents like kerosene. Consequently, kerosene and other volatile petroleum-derived products reduce the viscosity of the bitumen. This reduction aids in constructing seal coats in road pavements since the softened mixture wets the chips more easily. Eventually, the cutback agent evaporates from the seal coat, thereby leaving behind a durable asphalt layer. However, if significant amounts of the cutback agent remain, it may result in unwanted long-term softening effects.

Standards

Our MC-70 Cutback Bitumen complies with ASTM D2028-97 standards, reapproved in 2004. Furthermore, it is suitable for both pavement construction and treatment. Additionally, this cutback grade bitumen blends with solvents such as kerosene, white spirit, gasoline, and naphtha, which effectively control the curing time. Therefore, Gold Bitumen Co. ensures top performance and durability.

Uses of Cutback Bitumen MC-70

Priming and Coating

Cutback agents lower the viscosity of bitumen when applied as a primer to road pavement aggregate base courses or substrates. Specifically, kerosene adjusts the concentration based on project requirements. Moreover, the cutback bitumen is ideal for prime coats and cold applications, as it is easy to use without thinning or heating.

Waterproofing

The cutback asphalt MC-70 waterproofs surfaces, plugs capillary voids, and bonds loose mineral particles. As a result, it significantly improves surface durability while preventing water damage over time.

Mixing Applications

Additionally, Cutback Bitumen MC-70 is useful in penetrating prime coats and producing patching or stockpile mixtures. In fact, adhesion agents assist in better coating of the aggregate surface, ensuring long-lasting repairs and structural integrity.

Packing of Cutback Bitumen MC-70

This cutback bitumen is available in bulk tankers and new, thick steel drums secured on pallets to prevent leaks during transport and storage. Consequently, this packaging ensures product integrity and ease of handling.

Safety of Cutback Bitumen MC-70

Precautions

Refer to Safety Data Sheets before use. Moreover, transport, use, and store the product at the lowest temperature possible to reduce risks. Eliminate all ignition sources during application. Always wear proper PPE, especially when the product is hot, and avoid inhaling vapors or allowing skin contact.

Environmental Safety

Prevent the product and its washings from entering stormwater or sewer systems. This practice reduces environmental risks and, in turn, contributes to sustainable management.

Guarantee/Warranty of Cutback MC-70

Gold Bitumen Co. guarantees the quality of Cutback MC-70 through international inspections and strict quality control tests. Importantly, each batch undergoes thorough checks to meet ASTM/EN 15322:2009 standards, ensuring consistent performance and customer satisfaction.
